CEDEJO is currently seeking volunteers for the following positions:
- Website/Social Media Assistants
- Spanish/English Translators for Live Events/Meetings
- Communications/Press Assistants
- Grant Research/Writing Assistants
- Development/Fundraising Assistants
- Event Photographers
- Event Volunteers
See detailed position descriptions below. These positions are part-time, unpaid, and voluntary positions. CEDEJO prefers committed, long-term volunteers but also welcomes short –term volunteers (i.e. 3 months, for a particular event, etc.).
CEDEJO greatly values and appreciates our volunteers, who make a huge difference in helping advance the mission of CEDEJO, and we recognize them by:
- Posting volunteer photos, along with a description of their contribution to CEDEJO, on the "Our Volunteers" page.
- Offering free admission to all CEDEJO events and/or conferences.
- Thanking them publicly at CEDEJO events.
- Offering a yearly appreciation lunch or dinner for our volunteers.
Website/Social Media Assistant
Tasks Include:
Qualifications/Skills Required:
Time Required: Approximately 1-5 hours/month, working within your schedule.
Location: Prefer Local volunteer (Chapala/Ajijic/San Juan Cosala/Jocotopec) but can be a virtual opportunity with no fixed address.
Training Required:
Tasks Include:
- Post relevant CEDEJO content (announcements, photos, videos, etc) to the CEDEJO Facebook and Twitter accounts.
- Upload photos taken by staff & other volunteers to the CEDEJO Flickr account.
- Upload videos to CEDEJO You Tube account.
- Post updates (as provided by the CEDEJO staff) to the CEDEJO website's blog page.
Qualifications/Skills Required:
- Commitment to Social Justice and a desire to help further CEDEJO's mission and goals.
- Experience with social media platforms and technologies including Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and YouTube.
- Prefer experience with website content management and working knowledge of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and related technologies (but not required).
- Able to maintain discretion with sensitive/confidential information and to interact appropriately online.
- Self-driven with a good approach to working independently
- Available to post social media updates multiple times throughout a month.
- Ability to write in both Spanish and English - or, at minimum, knowlege of how to use Google Translate (main postings will be made in Spanish but some Facebook & Twitter postings will be made in English as well) - CEDJO's volunteer translator can also help with translations of some things as needed.
Time Required: Approximately 1-5 hours/month, working within your schedule.
Location: Prefer Local volunteer (Chapala/Ajijic/San Juan Cosala/Jocotopec) but can be a virtual opportunity with no fixed address.
Training Required:
- Knowledge of CEDEJO mission, policies and procedures (provided by CEDEJO Staff).
- Training and documentation on how to fulfill duties as described above (provided by Administrator of CEDEJO website & Social Media Sites)
Spanish/English Translator
Tasks Include:
Qualifications/Skills Required:
Time Required: Approximately 1-6 hours/month (depending on number of conferences)
Location: Local volunteer (Chapala/Ajijic/San Juan Cosala/Jocotopec)
Training Required: Knowledge of CEDEJO mission, policies and procedures (provided by CEDEJO Staff).
Tasks Include:
- In-Person and live translation of spoken presentations of various Enligh and/or Spanish speakers at CEDEJO conferences (~once a month)
- Occasionally help translate documents and/or conversations/meetings (as needed).
Qualifications/Skills Required:
- Bilingual and fluent in Spanish and English.
- Ability to attend various meetings and events around Chapala/Ajijic.
- Comfortable in front of groups.
- Some previous experiece with similar work preferred but not required.
Time Required: Approximately 1-6 hours/month (depending on number of conferences)
Location: Local volunteer (Chapala/Ajijic/San Juan Cosala/Jocotopec)
Training Required: Knowledge of CEDEJO mission, policies and procedures (provided by CEDEJO Staff).
Communications/Public Outreach Assistant
Tasks Include:
Qualifications/Skills Required:
Time Required: Approximately 1-3 hours/month, working within your schedule.
Location: Local volunteer (Chapala/Ajijic/San Juan Cosala/Jocotopec)
Training Required: Knowledge of CEDEJO mission, policies and procedures (provided by CEDEJO Staff).
Tasks Include:
- Support with press events & help writing press releases, when needed.
- Support with printing and distributing event notices.
- Support with sending press photographs and announcements to newspapers, online forums and journalists.
- Sharing any new press coverage of CEDEJO with the Website/Social Media Assistant so they can post the coverage on the blog.
Qualifications/Skills Required:
- Bilingual - Spanish & English
- Good writing and proof-reading skills.
- Some previous experiece with similar work preferred but not required.
Time Required: Approximately 1-3 hours/month, working within your schedule.
Location: Local volunteer (Chapala/Ajijic/San Juan Cosala/Jocotopec)
Training Required: Knowledge of CEDEJO mission, policies and procedures (provided by CEDEJO Staff).
Grant Research/Writing Assistant
Tasks Include:
Qualifications/Skills Required:
Time Required: Approximately 1-6 hours/month, working within your schedule.
Location: Prefer Local volunteer (Chapala/Ajijic/San Juan Cosala/Jocotopec) but can be a virtual opportunity with no fixed address.
Training Required:
Tasks Include:
- Help CEDEJO research and identify viable grant opportunites.
- Help prepare and submit grant applications, letter of inquiry and formal proposals according to grant guidelines.
- Contact with the grant maker for clarification of grant guidelines (if needed).
- Proofreading and editing text for correct grammer, spelling, punctuation.
- Maintining follow-up contact with grant maker regarding status, results and potential feedback.
Qualifications/Skills Required:
- Ability to write in concise and easy to understand language which appropriately communicates CEDEJO's work, mission and strategic vision in a positive and honest manner.
- Ability to research, be organized and work independently.
- Ability to write well, proof-read and use corrent grammar.
- Available to attend CEDEJO meetings at least once a month to give updates on potetential grant opportunities, to brainstorm with the group and to coordinate efforts.
- Some previous experiece with similar work preferred but not required.
Time Required: Approximately 1-6 hours/month, working within your schedule.

- Knowledge of previous grant received by CEDEJO and CEDEJO's overall policy on grant-seeking (provided by CEDEJO Staff).
Development/Fundraising Assistants
Tasks Include:

Time Required: Approximately 1-6 hours/month, working within your schedule.
Location: Prefer Local volunteer (Chapala/Ajijic/San Juan Cosala/Jocotopec)
Training Required:
Tasks Include:
- Identify and research viable and effective local and/or global fundraising opportunities.
- Assist in building funding relationships with local individuals, organizations and businesses.
- Develop a virtual welcome pack for individuals who sign up to regular giving.
- Research new ways to develop consistent/regular donations.
- Assist with the development and improvement of the existing donor care strategy (i.e. thank you emails, correspondence, feedback, etc.).
- Help create new and effective calls-to-action (to donate).
- Provide assistance with fundraising events/activities (i.e. monthly conferences, yearly events, etc).
- Help to sell tickets or increase attendance to CEDEJO presentations and events.
Qualifications/Skills Required:
- Prefer Bilingual (but not required).
- Ability to communicate with a variety of individuals and audiences.
- Personable, friendly and curteous personality/manner.
- Some previous experiece with similar work preferred but not required.
Time Required: Approximately 1-6 hours/month, working within your schedule.
Location: Prefer Local volunteer (Chapala/Ajijic/San Juan Cosala/Jocotopec)
Training Required:

- Knowledge of CEDEJO's current fundraising strategy, goals and visions (provided by CEDEJO Staff).
Photographer
Tasks Include:
Qualifications/Skills Required:
Time Required: Approximately 1-6 hours/month, working within your schedule.
Location: Local volunteer (Chapala/Ajijic/San Juan Cosala/Jocotopec)
Training Required: Knowledge of CEDEJO mission, policies and procedures (provided by CEDEJO Staff).
Tasks Include:
- Taking quality photos of staff, volunteers and donors (as needed) to update publications and website.
- Taking quality photos of CEDEJO presentations, workshops, conferences and other community events (as needed).
- Providing uncopyrighted photos to CEDEJO for their free use.
- Uploading edited photos to CEDEJO's Flickr site.
Qualifications/Skills Required:
- Ability to travel and attend CEDEJO events.
- Personable, friendly and curteous personality/manner.
- Some previous experiece with similar work preferred but not required.
Time Required: Approximately 1-6 hours/month, working within your schedule.
Location: Local volunteer (Chapala/Ajijic/San Juan Cosala/Jocotopec)
Training Required: Knowledge of CEDEJO mission, policies and procedures (provided by CEDEJO Staff).
Event Volunteers
Tasks Can Include (depending upon your preference):
Qualifications/Skills Required:
Time Required: Approximately 1-3 hours/month, working within your schedule.
Location: Local volunteer (Chapala/Ajijic/San Juan Cosala/Jocotopec)
Training Required: Knowledge of CEDEJO mission, policies and procedures (provided by CEDEJO Staff).
Tasks Can Include (depending upon your preference):
- Assisting staff and other volunteers at local events and conferences with various tasks, such as: seating guests as they arrive, handing out phamplets or informational documents, helping set up technical equipment for presentations, directing guests to the restrooms, collecting tickets at the door, help set up and break down for events, providing rides/carpooling for volunteers, etc..
- Hanging up posters or events announcements in various locations.
- Assistance in selling tickets to an event.
Qualifications/Skills Required:
- Ability to travel and attend CEDEJO events.
- Personable, friendly and curteous personality/manner.
- Some previous experiece with similar work preferred but not required.
Time Required: Approximately 1-3 hours/month, working within your schedule.
